A Date in a Used Bookstore

Hey Friend! How have you been? I hope everything has been going well on your side of the screen. Life over here has been a little hectic to say the least. One thing seemed to have piled on another and that means other things have been neglected. Ever have those seasons? Like you feel sometimes you’re in survival mode? I’ll give you a brief overview of how our past month has looked like.

About a month ago Sam injured his back, he doesn’t know how. All we know is that one day he started experiencing tremendous pain. It’s hard to say if this was rooted from work something else. We don’t know. The poor guy has had many visits to the doctor, doing his PT stretches, visiting the chiropractor, using a heat pad, wearing supportive shoes around the house, you name it, he has done it. It’s hard seeing him in so much pain and not being able to do anything about it.

I currently work in a pharmacy at Walgreens. There, we recently had a few people quit and that means lots of hours available. I’ve been working a lot of overtime lately and I’m so grateful for that. Part of training to become a certified pharmacy technician is that I have to take a class and eventually take a test (all sponsored by Walgreens). That means I need to be responsible and study for this test. I feel all I have been doing lately is work and study.

So, what has been neglected? A solid routine, working out, my blog, and cleaning. I’m not complaining because I know we’ll get back into the swing of things once he feels better and I pass the test. I haven’t been able to really put my heart and soul into my blog as I normally do. All of that energy has been directed toward my PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) test.

Saturday, Sam seemed to have made a turn for the better. He said this was the first time he started to feel somewhat normal in weeks. He has been cautiously optimistic. The next day, which was yesterday, he was still feeling pretty good. He had an idea to check out a used bookstore. This is huge progress and we decided to run with it. For a day, we were able to take a break from the hustle and from the pain.

We decided to check out Chester Creek Books and Antiques. I had always wanted to check this place out but never got around to it. The owner bought an old church and turned it into a bookstore. When you walk in, it honestly looks like a library that exploded. If I’m going to be honest, it is very cluttered, but, I kind of like it that way. I don’t know why. It was very quiet and felt like we were in an old library. Because of that, I felt as though we had to whisper. Every turn I made in this place, there were more books, and chairs scattered throughout. I loved the old worn-down look of the place. I love that they took an old church and made it into a bookstore.

We both found a few good finds and I’ll share them with you. I was very excited when I found a Charlotte Bronte book. I have always wanted to get my hands on a copy and this was only $5. I also found an older copy of Little Women and I had to grab it. Sam found a dictionary, a book of poems, and a Word Finder with Synonym Finder (in a set). He showed me the word finder and synonym finder and the book of poems and said “I thought this might be helpful for your writing” Ain’t dat sweet!?! I just want to give him a kiss! He’s always very thoughtful and thinking of me.

After exploring every corridor in the building, we agreed that we will be back again someday. Do you like exploring used bookstores? Does stuff like this get you excited? I could have easily spent all day in there if I wanted. This has been a brief update but now it’s back to studying!

Happy Monday!

Love,

The Leal’s
